a fiery shadow.. or a clever creature?
Fiery red flames
Scorch my shadows

Yet I feel no pain
For the fire
Is nothing but camouflauge

A white-tipped tail
Swipes my side

The burning sensation returns
But still no pain

White-hot shadows creep
Around my body

The sweat on my head
Drips to the forest floor

A fiery snout tastes my leg
The smoldering feeling
Is at it's strongest

Still no pain
My hand drifts to my pocket
the water cantine is missing

I am stuck
the fire jumps to my left

It's burning yellow eyes gaze upon my stupidity
They mock my every move

Finally the sun rises
And I am able to see

I look for the fire
Suddenly missing it
Wishing for it to return

But all I see is mysterious creature
Sly and clever

With a beautiful red coat
And a big bushy tail

But where has the fire gone?
Once ablaze
Now missing?

How can that be?
When all I have to see
Is a fox?

Where are the burnt leaves?
And the smoldering trees?

And where is my cantine?
What is that in the foxes mouth?
It is my cantine!

I creep closer
And slowly take it

When my hand rests on its nose
The fire begins again.
