A sonnet about what we are given

More

To see more than the color of one's skin
or the cut of the clothing that they wear,
to see them for what they have deep within
takes more insight than some of us can spare.

A lesson to be learned by one and all,
we have to play the hand that fate has dealt
in the end someone always has to call,
someone loses, another hurt is felt.

It's a game of chance we are playing in
and no one knows who the winners will be,
we are all given the shells we're given
and a chance to see what we need to see.

From start to finish not knowing the score
but given what's needed, no less, no more.
