A poem based on being away from home.

Its been so long since I’ve been home.
One year, nine months, and eleven days.
I yearn to touch the land.
Just to spend one day.

The miles separate us,
But the thoughts just won’t stay away.
The warm weather on star-studded nights
How the lightning bugs danced and played.

My brother calls me nightly,
We talk of our family,
Laughter erupts between us,
As my mom jokes with us on three-way.

I’m in my new home because of love,
And yet I am pulled both ways.
Between North Carolina and Alabama,
Where should I stay?

I pray for my family,
Every night before I dream,
And every night I wonder…
If they miss me…While I’m Away.
