I will always be my dads baby girl.
When I close my eyes to go to my special place,
I see the sight of your fading face.
I know you would give up your castle in the sky,
to be here on earth by my side.
I will always be your baby girl,
even though you left this hateful world.
Everyone pretends to know
what it's like not to have someone to hold.
Inside I’ll never be the same,
for the father I never got to claim.
But really daddy you’re by my side.
Throughout my life you’ve been my guide.
To help me out through thick and thin,
to keep me free from evil and sin.
If only you were here
I wouldn’t shed so many tears.
I hold both hands up to reach the sky
and promise myself I’m not going to cry.
The angels came to take you away
but I needed you here with me to stay.
I haven’t forgotten your unfailing love
even though you went to live up above.
Other kids didn’t understand
why I had no dad holding my hand.
Why you weren’t there on daddy’s day,
I stood speechless, not knowing what to say.
Every night to God I pray,
I ask him why things happened this way,
as I talk to God these words I say.
“Dear God take care of my daddy,
I’d take him back in a minute gladly.
Let him know that I’m ok,
tell him all those words I wanted to say,
that Memaw raised me right,
she’d never let me leave her sight,
and she’s the wind beneath my little wings,
that protects me from almost anything.
I wish he could see me now,
I know deep down he’d be proud.
Papaw has been there since you could'nt be,
with him I've had so many great memories.
Let him know that I'll always remember,
of that face on my only picture.
Let him know that I think of him,
each and everyday,
please take care of my daddy,
for he is why I pray,
I’ll pray for him time and time again,
so I’ll end this one be saying amen.”
