The winners write it, but also right it.
A History…

A thousand whips,
Sear pain upon the lips
Of Gates and Lay,
Da Vinci and Nero.

At a tea table piled
With computers, pensions,
Pictures and lists,
Sat four quarters of sin.

And then the cavalry!
Historians! With books
And pens, erasers
Excessive facial hair!

Computer a bread basket,
Pension forms their bread.
Pictures the pitcher,
Lists now lemonade.

The men, just shapes,
Of biblical nature.
Perhaps Nero is ‘Romans’
And Lay 'Leviticus'.
