This is a short simple poem about regret.
Lonely Lamb

I saw a lonely lamb out in the rain the other day.
It was lying on the ground in a puddle of water.
I was sure that this poor lamb would not last the day.
It was certainly going to die.

I saw a lonely lamb out in the rain the other day.
It was left there by a selfish mother who would not wait.
I was sure that this poor lamb would not see another day.
It was destined to die.

I saw that lonely lamb out on the hill today.
It was frolicking in the fresh green growth.
I was sure that this was the lamb I saw the other day.
It was now not going to die.

I saw that lonely lamb out on the hill today.
It was munching on the newly grown shoots.
I was sure that this was the lamb that was destined to die.
But its dead body was still in the puddle.

I wish that I didn't see that lonely lamb the other day.
It was lying on the ground in a puddle of water.
I wish that the lonely lamb had not been left to die.
It just needed someone to help it out.

I wish I had helped that lamb the other day.
It would have survived the day.
I wish I had helped that lamb the other day.
It would still be alive.
