A poem for my friend, Shannon.

To Shannon

You said that no one would write a story about you.
I must tell you darlin`; that just isn't true.
I know lots of people, and you are a pet.
The longer I know you, the sweeter you get.

I've eaten with stars and politicians with flair.
I've had beer with country stars and folks who don't care
a fig about anyone, to no one is true.
They could learn a lot from someone like you.

People come; people go, who sit `round my table.
I like them all and talk when I'm able
about stories and songs and love when I'm blue,
but there's no one more welcome in my home than you.

You're soft, and you're kind; in your word I can trust.
You're the salt of the earth. Be shy if you must,
but as for me, I must say you're really a dear.
You're the greatest, I love you, come back soon, ya hear?
