A short story I wrote about a movie star and her unlikely friend.
Authors note: This story was entered into a local magazine! Go me!
****************************************
“Ahhh,” said the newly employed zoo keeper, “The monkey has escaped!”
And sure enough the monkey cage was open and the monkey was not in sight. The zoo
keeper was devastated, the monkey was pregnant. What if she crossed a road and the car
or the monkey couldn’t go or stop quick enough. The car wouldn’t see her. Then the manager
came out and when he saw that the monkey had gone he was so furious his ears
might have been on fire. “You should have taken more care of her,” he fumed, “She could
be dead right now for all we know! I've never had to say this on someone's first day but
Your Fired!” he said as if he never liked him anyway. “Yes sir,” he said in a mopey sort
of way and walked off.
Meanwhile the monkey was not hurt or anything like that. In fact she had managed to
sneak into a five star hotel. But on the top floor their was a world famous movie star. The
monkey had found her way through to the lift and went to the top floor and got through
the crack in the door and the wall. Kristina ( who was the movie star) was listening to her
CD player and practicing for her next film called “Alien Planet”. She didn’t realise that
there was a monkey in her room until it jumped up on her shoulder and did a big long
screeeeeech Kristina almost screamed her life's screams out. “What are you?” she demanded.
There was no reply. “It’s a monkey,” her cleaner said flatly. The monkey smiled.
Kristina laughed “I think Ill call her Kris,” she said very cool and calm, “I suppose Id better
go to the shop and get you some food,” she said as she opened her purse. They went
down stairs and got in the Rolls Royse that was as big as Kristina's apartment.
When they got to the shop they went to the pet food isle and bought the first packet of
monkey food that they saw. When they got home Kristina gave Kris some food while she
was on her shoulder. And as if by magic they went to a faraway place called Magicland.
But before they could open their mouths to gasp, some little elves came to greet them.
“What's your name?” a blue elf asked.
“Where are you from?” a green elf asked.
“What are you wearing?” a red elf asked.
“Silence!” a yellow elf tried to yell, “Now don't listen to those three because I'm sure you
have a lot more on your mind. Now you got here because you are the chosen two. You are
the two that the great king chose. You are the special two. You are the only two human
and monkey that have beenhere other than Sky, Grass, Rose and myself. So you got here
by your monkey friend over here eating the magic food and because you were holding on
to her you had to go with her,” “Well do we have to go on a secret mission like they do in
fairy tails?”
“Nothing like that. We just thought you might like to help us rescue our friends from the
Terrifying Tower?” he said saying it like a question.
“Cool,” Kris blurted out.
Kristina was gob smacked.
“You, you , you can talk,” she said.
“Only in Magicland she can. Anything can happen down here. Absolutely anything,” said
the old yellow elf in a misty sort of way. And right at that moment the elf disappeared and
reappeared with a piece of paper.
“Go back to where you live go and sit on the toilet and read this,” he said quite sternly
While he gave Kristine the piece of paper.
“Ok,” said Kristina, “But there's just one problem. How do we get back?”
“Oh that’s easy,” said the elf, “Jump up and down three times, hop twice then blink once and, you’ve both
got to do it if you both want to go back.”
“Ok,” said the monkey.
So they both jumped up and down three times then hopped twice and they blinked once and then they found
them selves back at Kristina's apartment.
“Wow,” said Kristina in a puzzled sort of way. When they were ready they went and sat on the toilet and
read the piece of paper. It said:
I say let the elves be
Free
Its them I want to
See
What would happen if they weren't
Free
I know its them I wouldn't
See
Says
Me
When she had finished reading she looked up and she was in Magicland, but not only that there was millions
of other elves everywhere. Then the happy old yellow elf said, “Thankyou you have freed our elves
we can now live in happiness and freedom. Thankyou so much for freeing our elves. You can now go back
to our normal lifestyle.”
And right at that moment they found themselves walking in the zoo and giving and giving Kris back to the
zoo keeper and going back to her apartment and snuggling up in bed with her new baby monkey from Kris.
THE END.
