This was found on my hard drive from a few years ago after a breakup.
Forced into numbness.

That place where there is nothing
good nor bad
darkness nor light.
A vacuum -- self-contained
nothing enters
nothing escapes.

There's a hope
that sits outside the door.
A desire to resolve the
empty space in my soul
where you once consumed.

Swearing to love never again
in a vain attempt to gain
peace that would never entice
or ever suffice
for a learned experience
achieved through heartache and pain.

Here, I feel lonesome and plain,
seeing each day
with different eyes
I never knew I had.
