a girl i once saw but can never forget
As I look up from the paper
I see the child watching
Does she mean anything to me?
My paper I am blotching

I can’t work now
With that innocent stare
Wondering why
It seems to blare

It’s shouting at me
I don’t know why
Have I seen it before?
While I stared at the sky?

I don’t think I have
At least-I can’t remember
This small child sitting at the wharf
Begging me to help her

If only I knew
Then maybe I could help
That stare seems so familiar
Like it’s from another life

Like maybe I knew the girl well
She was maybe a sister
She was maybe a friend
Why is she familiar?

I know that she knows me
But my memory won’t jolt
I make a move towards her
But then she bolts

That was a while ago now
But I can’t forget her face
I can’t forget she ran
Like in an Olympic race

I often think of her
I wonder if I did know
I wonder where she came from
I wonder, I wonder
