The Daylight Saving debate has raised its head again.
THE GREAT DEBATE.

The debate on daylight saving has reared its head again.
It's been on and off a while now, since I can't remember when.
It's not that we are stubborn t'ward the ones who know what's best
It's just that we are farther north, and a little farther west.

The majority of people live more south than we all do
The sun comes up and they arise and start the day anew.
They go about their business, go to work or where they will
When the duties of the day are done they want some sunshine still.

The sun does set much earlier down there we know that's true,
So after school and after work, what is it they can do?
They want the chance of leisure and time to go and play
What better way to do this than extend the time of day.

In summer here the sun will rise 'round five (we're on the sea)
And farther west it's later still for The Isa than for me.
We have a few more hours of light already when work's done
As it is late in Standard Time for the setting of the sun.

We tried the Daylight Saving lark many years ago,
And we were living way out west, and witness I did so
Little children off to school in darkness every day.
They have to go much earlier -- the school's so far away !

When bedtime comes for tired tots, they feel they are not ready.
The sun is shining brightly and it's 9pm already !
I've heard some say "That's simple, just pull on down the shade"
And don't make fun, we never said "It makes the curtains fade".

There's Daylight Saving in Southern States, it suits your clime and you
So please don't try to criticise us for our point of view.
No referendum or debate will make us change our mind,
We're not just country cousins here, we're people and we're kind.

Leave nature 'lone and let the sun come up and down each day.
Relish all the time we have right now to work and play.
The time is right. It is correct, up here in Q.L.D.
So why must we watch programmes an hour earlier on T.V?
