This poem gives insight to what I believe happens during cancer's hard journey.
Cancer is not a very nice word
Its not pretty or sweet like the song of a bird
To hear the word cancer makes you want to shiver
And to find out you have it makes you do more than quiver

And to find out you have it at just barely fifteen
Trust me when I say you are going to scream
So whats next on the long road ahead?
Believe me when I say it is something to dread

First there's the diagnosis and the continuous waiting
Next come the tests that are so very degrading
Not to mention those long sleepless nights
Times when you want to shout "This really BITES!"

There's also the wondering of why it happened to you
And the asking of what anyone could do
There's your loved ones scared weeping at your side
Watching their tears roll down their face is like watching high tide

But that is not it, oh no it is not
Don't you forget about the painful shots
Did I mention that you lose your hair
Or how people are rude, they point and stare

You also lose your figernails, appetite, and weight
There are side effects with everything and they are never late
Getting cancer is not an easy ride
Everything I said is the truth, I never lied

But don't for one second think there is no hope
It's human nature to find ways to cope
Plus there's your Mom, Dad, or crazy Uncle Lou
These are all people who will never stop loving you

Hold on to your family through cancer's hard times
For they are the key through the journey described in my rhymes
You ask me how I know family is the key
Well believe it or not, it happened to me
