Unrequited Love Poem
Choke

Well, there are a thousand things
I want to say to you,
But I’m struck dumb.
There are a thousand things I have to say,
And a thousand years to speak
As the time stretches out behind us,
Back light for all of the night.
There are a thousand things to say,
All of them race to the front,
choke their own chance to live
choke their chance to come alive.

Lets pretend now,
Play the game so well
that the rules are lost.
Who do we crown king?
Well, this round goes to you,
To you, my beautiful one,
Hats off, glass up, all of it falls to you.

And I sit there like I’m twelve,
Struck dumb by the phone.
And I just don’t understand,
Help me understand,
I just don’t understand why,
Why must it be this way.
Cry like a child when you don’t call
Cry like a child swallowed up in the crowd,
Can’t find the face I’m looking for,
Can’t find the one that I need.
