Being alone for the first time, putting my life in my hands
The air is thick with threatening things
They claw at me and tear my wings
I struggle as I gasp for air
Afraid I'll fall into their lair

It's equilibrium I seek
to balance out the rocking scales
I hear the darkening shadows shriek
My fears increase, my courage pales

My heart is hammering so hard
Will it burst out of its shell?
Will I end up torn, and scarred?
Fighting to stay out of hell

The slightest tipping of a wing
I right myself and start to fly
I am no longer tottering
Afraid of plunging from the sky

Feeling joyful as I soar
I am not frightened anymore
My destination is unknown
But I can get there on my own.
