This was my poem to my lover for Valentines 2007 that she has kindly allowed me to share.
A Poets Apology to You
By Clive Lee Welch

Words woven into Art, poetic expression of emotion, once came easily to me,
It became an expected talent entwined within my daily life.
Falling in love with you brought a jilted desire, painting with words, to a shuddering stall.
I lost my rhythm, I lost my rhyme, I even lost the words in time.
And Poetic expectation became abandoned.  For how pale my poetic stature became, when overshadowed by my love for you.

Pardon the cliché, pardon my inability to make this sick talent do justice to the very soul I love.
But how can my words walk their readers to the heavenly place that my love for you takes me?
What vocabulary can I find, what tear tearing wonder would express the emotion of love,
My love for you, in the magic of mere wandering words?
Words once held magic for me yet now the magic is being with you.

So this is a Poets apology to you, the rhythm and rhyme gone,
Swept away in the wake of our flying carpet.
The words fight feverishly to capture the truth, our truth, the truth in our hearts and,
Although they fail to capture even a pepper-pot size of all this, I hope they show you a sign-post.
Cross roads of trouble? May these words sign-post you to comfort,
Cross roads of hopelessness, may these words lead you to hope,
For these words point to the place you will always be able to go,
My heart, for I am in love with you.  I just wanted you to know.
