A poem about the continuing Darfur tragedy.
DARFUR 2007

Doesn't the world see or care
About the continuing genocide there?
Refugees 2.5 million in number,
Four hundred thousand dead.
Unless the world awakens from slumber,
Remaining Darfurians' fate I dread.

2 reasons the world has ignored their plight:
0 oil or resources does the land possess.
0 percent of slaughtered victims are white.
7 days a week they cry out without success.

NOTE: I first wrote a poem about the Darfur tragedy in 2004, some three years ago.
It has now been four years since the slaughter began and still the world (and the U.S. government) does nothing to stop the killing. Hollywood celebrities (George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Mia Farrow) have recently taken up the cause. Maybe that is what it will take to make the U.S. government finally take action to stop this genocide. One can only hope...

 Black African Genocide  (13+)
A thought-provoking poem about the situation in western Sudan at present.
