A 9/11 poem in honor of a friend.
A boy, alone, stares down, sees the whole
City, analyzing his life, and how he must carry
On. Reflecting in his eyes, a scene of smoke and
Fire, from the planes which crashed on that
September morning. A tear drops from his
Eye. It is heavy, but it continues its descent towards
Earth, like man jumping from the building, escaping
This world of emotion, unimaginable, but
Real.

Real as life, as death, as truth. He cannot
Understand why he was saved.  He was to
Be with another in one those of those towers,
So majestic in their appearance, before. But now, a
Rubble of metal beams, concrete, and people,
Glows, blocked by smog, for none to see. The sun, it
Shines, and clarifies all, but the people have not yet
Awakened to what has happened. They will not for
Time.

Time too late, and arms picked up.  It is
Revenge they want, immediate action, visible
Progress. But they shall fight an idea, a thought
Omnipresent in everyone’s mind, idea of
Scaring, of terrorizing, but to what scale.
They shall see no visible action but death, and more
Death.  Parents’ children getting lost in other lands, or being
Recorded as a statistic, not a person. And all will
Realize.

Realized, is what the boy did, now grown,
As war between man and mind continues on, and
Death still occurs. Even now as a man, he
Searches for why he was saved from that day. And the
Idea still exists, an idea within all our minds.
Terror. To terrorize or be terrorized. The events the
Same but switched, those who are from the area of those
Responsible, terrified of being terrorized, this he knew, was
Real.
