The curse of the warrior.
He never sleeps.
Alone in the forest he wanders,
Living for only the beautiful song in his head:
She calls to him, sweetly singing his name.
Only she sees when he cries,
And only she knows when he can’t take it any more.
He is alone.
Wandering day to day, only seeing the light in his head.
Only surviving rather than living.
He can taste her when he breathes,
And only when he closes his eyes
Can he see her one last time.
To the world he is a loner
Killing what he has to, hating to survive.
He is angry at the world,
To them he is emotionless and uncaring.
They do not see what lies beneath his eyes
The pain that threatens to consume him.
They do not see the effort it takes for him to even breath
The effort it takes not plunge his knife into his own chest
When he is alone.
He survives.
