This is a poem that reflects on a person that the narrorator believes has changed.
You don't understand
How hard it is to take your hand
And for me to believe you
When I don't, and you don't, know what you will do

You are on a different planet
And I don't understand it
Why you have to do things like this
The real you is who I miss

I miss the way you spoke to me at midnight
How those words filled my mind, body and soul with light
But that man is gone
No matter how I long

He is absorbed in the shadows of his past
If he doesn't get help, the shadows are all that will last
The level you're at is true distortion
No, I'm NOT blowing things out of proportion!
No matter how much I scream
As the tears begin to stream
As you are living for the thrill
Trying to fight a battle uphill
That you say you won't win
Every night, another battle between us begins
But you don't care
As I am left here to stare
