A fun poem about the nature of music...
Music began dancing through the air
As I was practicing one day.
The notes began with the taps of their feet
Which started the backbeat sway.

The music waltzed right off the page
In couplets of harmony.
And then began the syncopation
In the old time, jazz time, sweet.

Their shimmies changed to upbeat dancing
Of dotted halves and thirds so light.
This now new rhythm turned into Latin
The Rio De Janeiro, dancing all the night.

The half notes changed it to the 50's
To rockin' 'round the clock,
And doin' the twist with the monkeys.
It made the whole notes balk.

They and the full rests had to agree
That youth needed classical.
The Opera, sweet vibrato high notes
And choirs spiritual.

I decided that would put them straight
Back in their bar and measure.
They did a slow romantic sway
And the night was nearly over.

The little rests got tucked in bed
By their loving parent notes.
Who went to sleep themselves
Just as they all were wrote.

When people can't understand why
I love the music I do for my age,
I have to smile and think of that night
When the notes danced off the page.
