This is an ode to a King Cobra that resided in my back yard when I lived in India.
Out of the clustered banyan trees,
along the narrow back wall,
long and sleek, majestic like its name.
Slowly but stealthily it came.

The King Cobra requires no introduction.
It's introduction lies in it's hooded conduction.
Dripping fangs that spell instant death.
This reptile is to all that live a grievous threat.

One lofty look cast toward me.
One warning, I'd better let it be.
A flash of scales- black and beige
and it was gone, as soon as it came
