a lonely narrator reaches out for some human contact...
Welcome, guest,
the windows and doors are open.
I just cannot peer the peephole
I've shrunken
since your last visit,
haven't groomed.

Don't tarry
in the doorway, stand
in the rectangle-light,
make that funny face, don't mind
the cobwebs.

I've still got the record,
big band—canwedance?
I'm sure my legs work,
I think,
you haven't said
if you'll comb my hair again.

I'm sorry I'm infested,
rats and raccoons,
I'm just low on supplies,
been waiting for your ginger
snaps, please tell me
you have them, brought something,

something sweet—
please do come closer, darling,
recognize me.
I'm desperate to touch
the smooth lining of your coat.
