Did you never make mistakes?

  Towards the Light

I pull my cloak about me
and drift out into the night.
It's not the dark that scares me
as I move towards the light.

I bow my head in sorrow
as I think of things long past.
I never asked forgiveness
though my sins were grave and vast.

I look to make atonement,
expiation's what I seek,
for a soul full of remorse
and willpower that was weak.

I just hope it's not too late.
That I still may have the chance
to rectify my misdeeds
and my standing thus enhance.

But now, the light grows brighter
as nearer to it, I come.
My body starts to tremble
and my senses start to hum.

And as it washes o'er me
it tells me that I am saved
and the chains that bound me tight
are now scattered on the grave.
