Please take the time to catch me a star, but please don't end up falling awake.
If you happen to be swimming through the clouds one night
Soaking in that wondrous shining moon
Please take the time to catch a star
For it’d make a breathtaking keepsake

Remember to keep your eyes peeled and hands ready
otherwise you might miss your chance
You want to pick the brightest one
those make for the best wishes

Under no circumstances should you lie down
However tempting moonlight basking may be
You’d be bound to fall asleep
And then you’d slip right through the clouds

Be sure to stay alert and please keep your hands open
you’d feel terrible if you missed it
Bringing home a dreary star would be bringing home absolute gloom
a wish most certainly couldn’t and wouldn’t come true

Think about slipping through the clouds
Why, you’d be falling awake
Down, down, down
And without a star to land on

So stay alert and keep your hands prepared
although I suppose falling would certainly wake you up
Be sure to catch a bright star
so even if you do fall, you’ll land softly

Daddy, when you’re swimming through the clouds one night
Enjoying that handsome moon
Please take the time to catch me a star
But please don’t end up falling awake
