I looked at what was once a Iraqi house and wrote this poem.
This house is empty,
But was it always so?
Did Plath, Hughes, Stevens and more
Always lie blackened with soot on the floor?
Was it always so, that these stairs lead one nowhere
and end in a fall?
Was the food always half eaten and covered with rubble and pall?
What about this mirror, Was it always shattered like this?
And this dangling portrait of a miserable woman, how come it's so?
What's this on the wall? This yawning hole, Was it always so?
How queer! It seems to widen.
This empty hole on the wall.
