Glad to be able to honour my grandfather! A bouquet of feelings!
*Flower4**Flower5**Flower3**Flower5**Flower4*

When as newborn, in my crib I lay,
wrapped in frills, capped in lace,
he hovered nearby every day,
warmth ‘n’ tenderness writ on his face.

On shaky knees I learnt to stand,
uncertainly I toddled, a new world was mine!
Clasping his gently outstretched hand,
with fierce pride his eyes would shine!

A naughty child of about two,
I borrowed often his walking stick,
straddled it horse-like the whole house thru’'
ne’er once did I hear his tongue click!

Unsure when first I set off to school,
choking down the welling tear,
lovingly he drew on my cap of wool,
and hugged away all doubt and fear!

Wrestling with study, a school going child,
confused, pressured, or just plain tired;
softly he reasoned, wisely and mild,
rescuing me when trouble transpired.

As troubled teen, against my parents raging,
screaming tantrums, creating confusion,
I leaned on his shoulder, wisdom emerging,
guided surely to fortuitous conclusion!

A young adult, ready to spread my wings,
poised on the edge of giddy threshold,
From within me a new confidence springs,
ready to face the future however it unfold!

I remember the one, who brought me this far,
so much to him I owe, it must not go unsaid.
"Grandpa to me you are the shining star,
If I was the needle, you were the thread!

Your long and fruitful life from God I soulfully plead,
but you’ll live in my heart, in every word and deed!"
