Written for Sherri Gibson's Coloring The World Contest, using her Title Prompt.

I AM LIKE LIGHTNING

The sky has darkened and the thunder rolls,
the rain begins to fall with no regard for life.
Lightning flashes across the sky, striking out
at a world that has become filled with strife.

The storm echoes my pain and inner rage,
at times threatening and somehow frightening.
I recognize the emotions that I am feeling now,
and in so very many ways, I am like lightning!

I have allowed myself the chance to harbor
thoughts better left to prayer and meditation.
Forgiveness is dampened by tears I've shed
as I have endured such complete desolation.

Lightning flashes across the sky, striking out,
the sky is dark and the thunder rolls once more.
The rain soaks my clothes, I feel intense rage
as the lightning tries to even up the score.

I am like lightning, a shaft of light that can blind
the eyes of those who know the wrath I bear.
Yet the storm will pass and the sky will clear,
leaving only release of anger, as if never there.
