A few words from a Native American/American Indian poet
AS IT IS

Humbly walking the shore
Sick
Tired
Starved
Holding onto hope.

Grandfather’s hand extending
Support
Comfort
New life
Welcoming all coming.

Looking beyond, wanting more
Encroached
Imprisoned
Destroyed
In the name of progress.

You offered many things
Laws
Words
Peace
Promises never kept.

Tears drenched trails
Small pox
Whiskey
The Rez
Jesus was a Cherokee princess
