Ice crystals sparkle in the sunlight
On a brilliant February day
Chilling my resolve to stay inside
I need to go play

When I heard there were people skating on Princess Pond, I couldn’t wait to go! I had
been in a funk for quite a while since she left and I needed something to take my mind
off my loneliness. Skating always had that effect on me. Even as a young child whenever I
was troubled I would skate. The combination of the fresh air and the concentration
required for good technique allowed me to forget, at least for a time, about her.

Grabbing my skates
I run to the pond
To twirl like the girl
That is lost in my mind.

I quickly put on my skates and joined the other skaters skating along to the music
passing others by in a blur. Then she caught my eye. A lone skater split from the circle
into the middle and performed a beautiful double toe loop! Her shoulder length blond hair
flared out as she spun and partially covered her beautiful smile. Her pretty green eyes
twinkled as she giggled like a little girl thrilled with her first time performance of
such a perfect maneuver on ice.

Glimmers of youth I am trying to find
Gliding on ice, frozen with time
Back to an age when his love was, mine
Deep down I know everything will be fine.

I was immediately drawn to this beauty and grace on ice. Just watching her made me feel
like I was young again. It was as if I saw in her a way back to my youth, a way to forget
my troubles, and who knows, perhaps find love again! I decided right then and there that I
had to meet her. I broke from the circle, heading toward the center to attempt a single
axel, and ended up sprawled at her feet.

His eyes sparkled like holiday lights
His laugh was full of charm
I reach down to touch his arm
Thankful he is not harmed.

Winter seemed to have passed like a short program in an Olympic pairs skating event! Things started out slowly between Anna and myself. From the first day she helped me up off the ice after my embarrassing fall right in front of her to where we were today. Facing each other, my hand on her waist hers on mine we skated slowly and gracefully to the soft music.

The moment we connected
I felt a little spark
Something tells me I will be
Happy I came to the park

For me it was love at first sight but Anna took her time. She was patient but purposeful as she held my hand and coached me, molding me into her partner on ice. With the music building Anna pushed off of me while still holding my hand and we began building speed. So it was, Anna ‘s feelings for me had gained momentum.

Together we glide side by side
Little kids we resemble
Holding hands dewy-eyed
I begin to tremble.

I pulled Anna’s hand signaling her to come face to face with me again and drew her close to my body as we began to spin in unison our skates rising and falling in succession. It was a difficult move for me to master but well worth it having gained Anna’s confidence while capturing her heart as well. Her feelings were evident in the smile that lit up her face just before we emerged from our maneuver with Anna spinning out to face me still holding my hand high above our heads.

Springing forward in trust
My heart begins to melt
Pounding full of lust
This time we make for us.

We laughed together, elated at our performance and I pulled her to me gazing into her eyes our lips touching lightly in what seemed a choreographed kiss. We had mastered the dance and now with spring just around the corner, we were anxious to escape from the ice and explore the warmth of this new love.

Meeting daily on the ice
Being together had become our vice
Skating as though in a dream
we moved like the perfect team.

Unlike my silly twin, who treats me like a rag doll
I laugh at his lack of control
I beg him to skate slower
To hold me gently like a flower.

Throughout the winter we met regularly on Princess Pond anxious to dance on the ice. Our movements syncopated in perfect time, as was the beating of our hearts. The feelings we had for each other had reached new heights and was embodied in the confidence we had in each other’s moves.

This day was different though. I had arrived at the ice at our usual time and I noticed she was already on the ice gliding gaily with another guy, albeit rather clumsily. I quickly laced on my skates and charged out onto the pond angry at the sight of another man dancing with the woman that held my heart.

“Anna!” I cried out angrily as I skated towards the pair. “Who is this?” I asked my eyes fixed on hers and ignoring the man beside me. “I’d like you to meet my brother Greg. Greg, this is my friend Robert.” Anna said. Normally he’s more attentive when I tell him things.” Anna, I’m sorry, I forgot you told me your brother would be here today. I said apologetically “Come on, you can make it up to me on the ice!” Anna exclaimed before kissing me gently and leading me out onto the ice

I was unprepared for the crash landing
Robert was standing in front of me
His eyes full of misunderstanding
Commanding to skate with me.

I escorted my brother to the edge of the pond
Then I faced Robert head on
My heart waiting for him to repsond
Our kiss left us both turned on.

I need more time to show him
The depth of his meaning on my soul
Our time is fading like the snow
It is now that he must know

The winter was quickly coming to a close and soon our meetings on the ice would have to
end. We had become more then just skating partners on the ice. My feelings for Anna had
grown considerably and I wanted to take this relationship to the next level. I had to
find out if she felt as strongly about me as I did about her.

My love for him has only grown
Beautiful like a wildflower in the spring
My arms pull him in, my lips no longer cold
The touch of him burns me, makes me whole

My fears were calmed when after our skate Anna asked me if I would like to try something
different. “What do you have in mind Anna?” I asked. “I’d like to take you skiing. My
folks have a cabin up on Rapture Mountain; Anna replied then added, “You can ski can’t
you?”  “I’m no expert but perhaps you can show me what I don’t already know.” I replied
slyly trying to contain my excitement.

Please come home with me
Take a chance on our romance
Trust these feelings as they dance
Off the ice and into me

The view from the lodge was breath taking. A wall of glass looked out at snow covered
peaks that stretched to the horizon.  A fire flickered in the round fireplace separating
the glass wall from the sofas that surrounded it on one side. After having showered and
changed I sat looking out at the view and waited for Anna to join me.

Show me what I know is true
These feelings belong to you
No longer two but now as one
Our love we have won.

I stood when Anna came into the room almost overcome by her beauty. She wore a red satin
robe that clung to her body revealing every curve. It was a perfect contrast to the blond
hair that framed her face and her sparkling green eyes. She smiled before turning on the
stereo and asked, “Would you like to dance?” as Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” began to
play. I held her close knowing full well she could feel my growing desire as our lips met
and we kissed passionately for the first time.
