A Rondeau Poem
Where did it go, the future I had 'fore me
It was right here, so fabulous to see
Monied, envied, desired, I saw myself so
Of friends I'd have plenty; they'd bask in my glow
To that castle on yon hill I would hold the key

Now, though, those dreams they scatter and flee
That future I once pictured, full of mirth, joy, and glee
There were so many pleasures, such wonders would I know
Where did it go

I traded a piece for each master's degree, some went for each of three
More went while still in school, working toward my Ph.D.
Some of it I bartered for my wife and her daughters, I love them all so
Tomorrow may bring joy or pain, but onward I shall go
The future holds so many things, not what I thought they'd be
That vision I held, it was so dazzling to see
Where did it go
