I wrote this now but my son is 8yrs. old. it feels like yesterday.
I opened my eyes one day and there you were.
Looking back at me without censure.
Looking at me with trust, that wasn't on strings.
Staring at me like you were afraid to close your eyes, or else I'd disappear.
I know the feeling, I felt it too.
Unconditional love, with out saying a word.
I knew in only a moment that I could do no wrong.
That whatever mistakes that I had yet to make, you already forgave me for.
I knew that the road my be hard, but I would always have a champion in you.
I was afraid that I wasn't worthy, that I wouldn't be able to uphold this opinion you had of me.
So, I closed me eyes with regret, thinking of giving up.
Then, I opened my eyes and there you were.
Looking back at me without censure.
Looking back at me with trust that wasn't on strings.
Unconditional love without saying a word.
I knew then I would never give up.
