A poem about how peope view each other. It's slightly dark; don't read if you're sensitive
What Do You See?

When you look at me, what do you see?
Do you see flesh and bones?
A mere body with no significance,
A background prop.

When you look at me, what do you see?
Do you see a machine?
Cold, grey and emotionless,
Simply there to give you answers.

When you look at me, what do you see?
Do you see a marker?
Something that must be surpassed,
That you measure yourself by.

When you look at me, what do you see?
Do you see an instrument?
A material thing that can be used,
Then becomes useless and is thrown away.

When you look at me what do you see?
Do you see black or white?
A person who doesn’t understand you,
Who is different from you?

When you look at me, what do you see?
Do you see the hatred in my eyes?
Hatred that makes them dull and bitter,
Hatred that you caused.

When you look at me, what do you see?
Do you see a soul?
A soul that is vibrant with colour,
A soul trying to break free from its gilded cage.

When you look at me, do you see me?
Do you even look at all?
If I screamed would you look then?
Or are you deaf as well?
