A poem about living and dying with Cancer; the emotions, feelings, sadness and heartbreak.
A moment in life I didn't want to face,
Yet a moment still, I can never replace.
Each breath that she took, a struggle inside,
A sister without hope with a heart full of pride.
She struggled for words to be understood,
Her family by her bedside, just as they should.
Memories re-lived, moments of tears,
As we privately hid the worst of our fears.
Each knock on the door an un-welcome distraction,
Emotions so deep, bearing no visible reaction.
An occasional smile, a joke so absurd,
Still time slipped by without speaking a word.
Hands held, hearts felt, a hidden tear in our eye,
We all sat there strong, never releasing our cry.
Hearts equally broken, still not to share,
Yet, the day was precious, her family was there.
She spoke to us often, her thoughs confused,
At times, it broke silence and kept us amused.
As we all sat in her hospital room,
Each of us felt an unmistakable doom.
Both of her parents, both of her sisters,
Sat quietly talking, sometimes in whispers.
Minutes to hours, as day turned to night,
We prayed in our hearts a miracle's in sight.
Hope we all have, faith we believe,
Our prayers to the Lord are heard and recieved.
Only God knows what each of us feels,
Though each of us knows, the feeling is real.
The love of a parent, the bond of a sister,
While she lay snoring, no clue that we missed her.
Each of us living the memories we hold,
A shiver runs through us, the room is so cold.
The hearts are warm but, the emotions high,
There is no preparation for saying "goodbye".
We're clinging to life, unable to let go,
As she struggles to hide the pain she won't show.
Her body grows weak but, her strengh does endure,
A horrible fate of which there's no cure.
Life isn't fair, we all know this is true,
Still no one expects it will happen to you.
When it touches your life, you search for the answer,
To that undeniable diesease, we all know as Cancer.
A family broken but, not torn apart.
Because never can God take what we feel in our heart.
