We don't see the friends who are most special until the tide passes.
A Friend In The Sand

We walk the beach day by day
Picking shells along the way
We choose the brightest, most colorful, those that fill our view
For they're easy to pick up, and make us feel new

But only for a little while these shells we do keep
For they look great and bright, but that is all they reap
For we want something more, something we can keep

And as the tide slows at the end of the day
New shells we see that won't go away
These shells are pure, touched by sand
And always they have been there on the land
We just had to stop and look

Because it isn't until the end of the day
That we are able to see
The best ones ever possible
The ones we want to keep
