A boy learns a new skill, but who has taught him? (Don't normally rhyme, but here goes...)
Once there was a strange little boy,
Whose fun involved no game or toy.
He dreamt of monsters and fairies instead.
His playtime was all inside his own head.

One day he introduced his mom
To his new friend whose name was Tom.
"Where is he? she asked. "I can't see this 'Tim'."
"His name's Tom, and only I can see him."

Mom patted his head, gave a nod,
(Although she thought it was quite odd),
And shrugged her shoulders, most willing to wage
Her boy was growing, just another stage.

And so she watched, day after day
As her son went outside to play.
He was always talking to someone else
Although there was no one there but himself.

Weeks later he came excited,
Dragging in mud uninvited,
And cried, "Mom, come and look what I can do!"
Then quickly out the door again he flew.

Mom went to see - what's the fuss about?
She thought her son was just acting out.
But what she saw left her so confused
That to believe her eyes, she refused.

For right there was her first and only son,
Riding his bike with training wheels undone.
And when asked where he had learned such a skill,
The boy grinned and answered, "From Tom's friend Phil."
