God’s Secret Garden

‘Twas a warm summer day as silently I strode
On a long since forgotten, old country road

Lost in the memories of my childhood past
Slowly I journeyed down the long dusty path

Basking in the warmth of the sun at noon day
When soft scents of wonder wafted my way

Around the next bend and off to one side
Lay a treasure the forest of trees tried to hide

Behind ancient walls of falling down brick
Beneath vines of wisteria fragrant and thick

An old wooden gate hung open wide
With childish excitement I stepped softly inside

A rustic stone fountain that once used to flow
With wild flowers and weeds is now overgrown

Around the once fountain all barren and dry
Rusty iron benches, now too, covered with vines

Violet, daisies and sweet peas to name just a few
Amongst sweet wild roses lingered an iris or two

A bright rainbow of color, a delight for my eyes
Blended softly with the sound of a meadowlark’s cry

If ever you’ve wondered where God might call home
Down an old country road someday you should roam

Behind vine covered walls nestled back in the trees
Through an old wooden gate, that’s where He’ll be.
