Scattered thoughts from a slightly off-centered fifteen-year-old..=]
A thousand springs ago
You dreamt of purity
And woke up to the scent of pollution,
pervasive and seemingly unnoticed by your peers
Why couldn't they see?
Why couldn't they understand?
They frolicked through the sprinklers in the lush green grass
as you gazed at the stars, perched atop your roof with a mind full of hatred
Spinning to feel alive
Feel, feel
Searching for something real
Something to excite, delight, and satisfy
When all that's left is desolateness
What do we do to survive?

A thousand summers ago
The rays of the golden sun cast a shadow upon your phlegmatic face
It shone, scintillating and pure
But you felt nothing
Devoid of emotion

A thousand autumns ago
Your cynicism saw the changing color of the leaves as immutable ugliness
Couples danced carelessly under the streetlights at the corner of your block
You stared and stared
and stared
Till your eyes turned to never-ending tunnels
And you attempted a facsimile of their moves

A thousand winters ago
Exquisite snowflakes fell daintily upon your sorrowful face
Your cold breath visible in the crisp air
But you felt nothing
Devoid of emotion
Spinning to feel alive
Feel, feel
Searching for something real
Something to excite, delight, and satisfy
When all that's left is desolateness
What do we do to survive?
