A poem about broken promises [hence the title].
Broken Promises

Sitting on the floor,
Clutching the shards,
Of the broken promises you made;
The promises you never,
Intended to keep.
Staring at the pieces,
Trying to fit them back together,
But unsuccessfully;
The edges refusing to adhere.
The promises you made,
The promises you broke;
Hollow,
Meaningless,
Empty words.
Lies as soon as you spoke them,
Invalid as soon as you wrote them.
Promises meant to comfort me,
But only delivering hurt,
And betrayal.
Promises that faltered,
And crumbled,
Upon formation;
Broken from the start.
Promises with the survival rate,
Of a suffocating flame;
A mere life span,
Of less than a second.
Promises that never had a chance,
Promises that will always,
And forever be,
Broken.
