Back Pieces/Coats/Cloaks breakdown from my Clothing/Materials (full list)
This is my Back Pieces/Coats/Cloaks sub-list from my "Clothing/Materials Reference (Full List). The intention of this list is as a creative writing reference, but if it helps for other projects, that's ok, too.

Breaking this list out of the main list should make it easier to search for items under the identified topic only. Other clothing/materials items should be referenced from the main list or from their individual breakdown category. This list is comprehensive, but also incomplete. (Reference sites at the end.)



Back Pieces/Coats/Cloaks (non-bodice/dress/robe items)

- Blazer
- Brat – (Celtic) cloak
- Burnoose - (Arab or Berber) hooded mantle or cloak
- Cape – hooded body drape for keeping warm or as a piece for an ensemble
- Chamanto – (Chile) poncho
- Cloak – hoodless drape over the shoulders to keep warm or accent and ensemble
- Coat
- Cowl
- Doublet – [circa late 14th to mid 17th century] a man's snug-fitting (buttoned) jacket
- Duster – (U.S. West) long tailed coat usually of leather, corduroy or canvas
- Epiblema – (Greek) shawl worn by Greek women
- Flak vest (or jacket) - (Military or protective forces)
- Himation – (Greek) heavy drape worn over a chiton, cloak
- Hoodie – lightweight jacket (fleece), sweater or shirt with a hood
- Jack – an abbreviated jacket
- Jacket – a sleeved, waist or hip length short coat
- Jerkin
         o (16th & 17th centuries) a man's short close-fitting jacket without sleeves, made usually of light-colored leather, worn over the doublet.
         o (20th century) a sleeveless garment worn by the British Army.
- Kilt jacket (Scot)
- Mantle – cape, cloak
- Mantalet – armor
- Nehru Jacket (Asian) – sleeveless, vest-like buttoned jacket worn by men or women
- Palla – (Roman) a woman's stole-like outer garment, could be draped over the head
- Paludamentum – (Roman) cloak or cape fastened at the shoulder worn by republican and imperial Roman men
- Poncho – (Spanish) full-circle cloak
- Parka – thickly padded, heavy coat with hood for extreme cold environments
- Peacoat
- Riding coat (also riding habit) [circa 1790] outer coat worn by both genders
         o (French) Redingote
- Shawl –
- Stole
         o (Religious) liturgical vestment; a band of colored cloth 7 to 9 feet long, 3 to 4 inches wide, center is worn around the neck and the ends are draped in front
         o a woman's wrap (shawl) usually long enough to go around the back and drap over the arms at the elbows or shoulders, often of fur or faux fur
- Straight jacket
- Veil – sheer, lacy, embroidered, or opaque cloth worn over the face, head (or both), sometimes body
- Vest –
- Waistcoat – sleeveless vest
