First canto of a traditional style poem about a freaking jellyfish!
Polys or Brave New Hero

Canto I

So long as humans walk this world
They seek a garden of mother pearl.
Paradise in nature ye laurels know well,
So seeks the man, hardware on high hill.
The language of nature is not computed on screen
Equations account for not life unseen.
O’ average Orpheus of ancient unsung tongue
Provide the chemist with one fluid vision.
Alchemy a problematic and old diversion
Brought forth a naïve and egotistical religion;
Wrought hell on earth in war and luxury
The Scientific Method a soulless philosophy.
Man seeks his garden by programming nature
A noble pursuit for gods of little stature.
Forget calculations and ologys and isms
Return now to waters of music and wisdom.
For the Origin of Species comes from one Holy Garden
Not on ground nor in air but in oceans untrodden.

“Begin then, sisters of the sacred well”
Forget not your cousins of the salty swell.
Let the lute of inspiration and glistering blaze
Quiet all flashy charlatans of modern days.
So goes the voice who would question all,
Do I tread on the edge, do I certainly fall?
Hush young bird and preen in ecstasy,
For the visions you seek will become one reality.
Now to the seas and the deep purple flow
Where man has but traveled yet neglected to know.
This time Heav’nly Guidance goes into the sea
Far into the reaches of a liquid eternity.
To a new unsung hero by name one calls nature,
A living creature, a colony, a traveler and a sailor.
Be kind good muse and stay sweetly my ear
Have faith and grace and your disciple will bear
An old song of vastness and depths anew
A talisman unrealized, unheralded but true.
To all who feel that all is but folly,
Not to listen gives credence to great tragic comedy.
So if these sublime notions are liquescent and long
Let the printer then paint the epic song.

The Sea of Tranquility is a beautiful place,
Let the tale then begin at Tranquility Base.
A cosmic pool of infinite space,
Perpetual in motion and preordained in trace.
The machinery that made this pilot possible
Is language science seeks, the voodoo mathematical.
This voyager far traveled beyond any system,
Forty billion light years in every direction;
Taken by winds of motions adrift at sea,
As Autumnal leaves glide delicately.
Trade routes carry myths and mesmerized merchants
Hoarding spices for pleasure and treasure of ancients
Dared never to go where this warrior hath been,
Above and below and all places within.
A budding flower resplendent with azure love,
What flora and fauna and life are made of.
A simple physalis by any other name,
But oh what a soldier in God’s grand game.
A knight not of one, but a thousand myrmidons
A flotilla battalion, the armada completion.
For the fight for life is beyond good and evil,
This warrior was christened both angel and devil.
To name him is vane for he goes by much more
He is here and now, Polys, Man of War
Who like ancient Raama to the forest was cast
And following Dharma lives true and fast.
Older than history and the greatest of heroes
A link in the chain confounded by scholars
For his reason is life, and life unaltered
No battle yet lost, no ability to falter.
His path is definite, his aim like the arrow,
This living utopia and everlasting hero.
His journey begins where it ultimately ends
Where ocean and sky unite and befriend.
Far above him the empyrean awaits
And the Prime Unmoved Mover, acknowledged in state.
Below a universe ultramarine in hue,
Hiding secrets known only to a sunken crew.
High above darkness speckled with light,
Down below divine indigo laden to night.
Infinity awaits in the blue of two worlds,
Two cosmic pools gulping singular pearls.
Such is the scene of tide and time
For this micro collection of body and mind.

From whence he hath traveled and what he hath seen
Is a tale of beauty and natural blessing.
His battles and vistas loom large and wide
Far beyond the Aegean and Homer’s pride.
Guided by winds that pursue his sail,
He drifts ever way word as if by rail.
And now forlorn time gathers round this figure
To form a machine cocked back at the trigger
And firing a blaze of fantastical tale
That glows like the comet’s lasting trail
In this story an adventure is readily at hand
And is fueled by masters whispering sublime commands
Their navigation by stars illuminating the sky
Give directions to hands as hands to mind.
As light passes downward through dark water’s power
To give unknown knowledge innate cleansing showers,
So too does our hero project his course
A sound conceit fashioning a noble recourse.
