Trying to find the right time to say goodbye.
Michael

Those drooping snowdrops came,
Met with sorrowful acclaim.
We sat mostly silent,
Your inner battle, violent.
It churned away within,
The end about to begin,
With nothing to stop it,
Didn’t want you to quit.
I knew I had to say,
Before there wasn’t a day,
I just didn’t know how,
And the right time wasn’t now.
My confidant and friend,
I didn’t think it could end.

Daffodils, we admired.
Their yellow flowers inspired.
I was put on ration,
Life showed little compassion.
The time was going fast,
How much longer can you last.
With lots of things unsaid,
My heart filled, consumed with dread,
For I needed to face,
My, emotional misplace.
You were so very brave,
Though the future was grave.
My angst unrelenting,
Neither of us lamenting.

The roses came to bloom,
I felt the impending doom.
You were so pleased to see,
And marked it a jubilee.
My heart felt searing fear,
I knew it, bitterly near.
That last day I saw you,
It was clear that we both knew.
We held hands the whole time,
Until the clock began the chime.
It was now I had to say,
what I had meant to all day.
With pain, mouthed “I love you”
“I know" you mouthed "I love you too”

For my "best mate" (as he would say) who passed away 23rd May 2001. Still so bitterly missed. Michael or Mick (as he was affectionately known) was a keen gardener which is the reason why he passed his months, by which flowers he had managed to see for the last time.
