a poem about life
                        LIVE-IN SCRAPBOOK

                        here i was content
                        with my books and memories
                        surrounded by collections
                        my little scraps of history;

                        i have photographs of family
                        and places where i've been
                        i have t-shirts from some concerts
                        that i went to way back when

                        i have movies-way too many
                        and those little Hot Wheels cars
                        i even have the matchbooks
                        from a thousand different bars

                        music cd's an' cassette tapes
                        record albums wall to wall
                        ticket stubs to everything
                        i musta saved 'em all

                        now memories are sweet
                        an' i fear they're somewhat frail
                        but in the light of repetition
                        it appears they become stale

                        and with all these ghostly relics
                        that i've gathered from before
                        there is little room for new ones
                        ('less i stack them on the floor)

                        so i'm thinking about e-Bay
                        or some way to trade them in;
                        i'll take a breakfast table, toast,
                        a spot of jelly on her chin
