you blew out the candle and whispered to me

I wish I’d just met you with no memories

  the view from 10th street

a staggering crack ho pulling a half starved ferocious looking pomeranian on the remnant of a sequined belt used as a leash creaks past on my street. both have seen better days. a tall ragged ghost follows dutifully nearly half a block behind. his skin is a caramel color and his hair is almost red. he is clicking his teeth loudly and gives me a salutory wave as he stumbles by. a slow moving patrol car is the final link of this east bound parade, engne idling and the unspoken promise of guilt driven anxiety behind smoky opaque windows. the Great Danes growl politely and the neighborhood blockwatch helicopter comes chuttering overhead in response to their outburst. i haven’t seen her in days, in fact she’s with him, i just know it, and my skin crawls
