My safe place
There is a staircase that is in mind.

Whenever I need to it transports to a better time.

When I feel like everything is hopeless and dark.

This staircase suddenly will spark.

I start at the bottom as I climb each stair.

I suddenly can sense my grandma's house you see I am transported there.

Where I used to play for hours in the attic.

Where I could go to and block out all the noise the static.

The smells of lilacs fill my senses.

Its her soft hugs and words that I miss.

Her smell of lavender and her goodnight kiss.

You see when ever I was there, I was out of harm's way.

I always looked forward to each new day.

They told me how beautiful and talented they thought of me.

They taught how nurturing should be

I had my own place to be safe, my own room.

Every child needs that to be allowed to bloom.

So when I feel like a scared little one.

I just close my eyes and take each stair one by one.
