Slayings at schools in America
Held

A cry, a scream, goes through our land.
Can You hear us anymore?

We are hurt, shot, abused, killed!
Do You see us anymore?

Another April, how can this be?
Oklahoma, Columbine, Virginia T.

This has to stop! It can’t continue.
April, a time of renewal, a time of warmth.
Does it have to be the warmth of our children’s blood?

How do we cope? What do we say?
Parent’s eyes are empty today.

A scream, a cry goes through our land,
With a mixture of prayers and tears.
How do we console?
What can we say?
Parent’s eyes are empty today.

We need help to understand,
How this is allowed to go on.
Is this all part of Your great plan?

I want, no need, to hang on to You,
So afraid to let go!
But the scream in the core of my being,
Doesn’t touch the piercing scream of those who survived.

So as the song says,
“This is what it is, to be held,
How it feels, when the sacred is torn from your life,
And you survive!”

Please hold us now.
We are all empty today!
