Introspective look at a waking dream
Uncertainty of madness ( In the dead of night )

I startle awake, heart pounding, metal taste on my tongue
There....again...a fleeting sound whispers into the ears of my soul
Stark moonlight on dry fingers of leaves moves eerily in the edge of sight
What meaning, what definition given to the rivers of thought inside my mind

OOOOoohhh...the floodgate opens....Oh God..Oh no...
Released now, the chorus swells to crescendo
Volleys of question and doubt overwhelm reason
And truth has no way to quell the fear, the surety that it is not right
I scream over the roar, and the child inside answers softly…
you must listen..you must listen..you must listen

"To what?"  I cry in anguish,
As the shadow moves on the window-sill quietly, darkly ..
Seeming to dampen the struggle within
Chilling, numbing breath on hold
Forever..takes but a second, a fraction of a lifetime

A glow of moonbeam slides in, capturing my frozen eyes,
Highlighting the motes that dance in the confines of my perception
And the child whispers..you must listen to them

Consciousness sharpens, zooms tight,
So small the motes, the remembrance, awareness as I touch one
It explodes into memory and senses surround me
There and there, as it was before…
Such wonder, such innocence, such raw passion, such zest

The exhale of my breath is glacial
Cold across my skin, so broiling hot
The next heart beat starts slowly and time speeds up again

A cry in the wind, I rise and let the cat in
Then settle back to begin my journey anew
