My Shadowy Friend

The world passes by with nary a mention
Of the lives I knew that achieved ascension

The solitary souls that whizzed on by
Finding another that caught its eye

Married and blissful and all great things
But all I have are memories of past flings

I travel with the company of a dark friend
The shadows I cast, with me to the end

They do not speak, but they do dare nod
They know that my smile is just a facade

The years are now gone forever in the past
Those years cannot be relived the dye is cast

Now I must trek forward and continue to seek
The hope that my shadowy friend will one day speak.
