My house of cards tumbles.

In a house of cards I now reside
They once made me smile
A burden of weight I cannot hide
They now crumble into a pile

Suits of various colors and shapes
Shadows of memory hide their gloss
Their meaning to me escapes
Their darkness embodies my loss

I try to clean up the clutter
Wondering why I bother to try
The cards will simply utter
The words of another lie

With each card I try to assemble
My fingers feel gloss once more
I fight what makes them tremble
But this is a game that I abhor.
