this is a short poem I wrote for a Social Studies assignment back in grade 5.
As I walk
this busy street
I see a girl
with nothing to eat
Earning money
by selling sweets
Risking her life
on the busy streets
Tonight when she returns
to her cardboard house
With her siblings and mother
poor as a mouse
She looks at them and says
things didn't go right
And they'll sleep
on empty stomachs tonight

Then I take a look
at the rich mans' side
Where corrupt officials
are trying to hide
They don't know
that for every selfish deed
They give the poor
a harder life to lead
I hope that someday
they will meet
This little girl working
on the busy street
And realize that
what they're doing ain't right
They steal our money
while the children fight
