Phases in life and the people/friends we meet for a short time
A Bus Stop in Life

A friend, I said, she simply agreed
As we waited for life to sort
The flow of events, emotions underway
And the wayposts to move inexorably

To what do I owe the pleasure
Is it fate or God or unknown plan
Complex it is, divining why
Two souls collide to remain a while

So on the path we met
Circling one another
Neither one able to leave
Or truly heal each other

Proton to proton, headstrong both
Broken in different parts yet still whole
Sought not by love, but stalked by misfortune
Brought on by decisions never intended

The circle turns and the path reveals
More of the mystery of each
For a brief glimpse of what it is not
And what it cannot ever be

We touch briefly then dance away
A spark of recognition perhaps
Equally seen as nothing at all
Despite the time spinning together in freefall

Again and again we meet bouncing farther apart
Pain shared, dividing, conquering attraction
Then falling together binding without hope
Leaving only shared misery with which to cope

But a smile breaks through, a silly thing
And a laugh shared soothes, numbs us
Making the time pass easier
For both or one,  who knows ?

Tis not a journey together or real time
Just a pause, a bus stop in life
Time will move inevitably faster
Bringing finality to all
Even unto dear friends
